Huaraz, Vaqueria – Cedros Trek

For people with less time we offer this shorter version of the fabulous Alpamayo Loop.
This circuit starts in Vaqueria and finishes in Cedros Valley in Hualcayan Town, where you can observe the famous face of Alpamayo Peak (5947 m.s.n.m) that won a prize for “The most beautiful mountain in the world”. It is a trail full of turquoise lagoons, mountains of more than 6000 masl, beautiful valleys and many high passes with magnificent views.

Short itinerary Vaquería – Cedros Trek:

Day 1: Huaraz – Vaqueria – Cachinapampa (3700 m. – 3700 m.)
Day 2: Cachinapampa – Tuctubamba (3700m. – 3900 m.)
Day 3: 
Tuctubamba – Huecruncocha (4150 m.  – 4650 m. – 3800 m.)
Day 4: 
Lake Huecrucocha – Jancapampa  (3800 m. – 4360 – 3600 m.)
Day 5: 
Jancapampa – Huillcapampa (3600 m. – 4610 m. – 4000 m.)
Day 6: Huilcampampa – Lake Jankarurish (4000 m – 4460 – 4830 m- 4200 m.)
Day 7: Laguna Jankarurish – Osoruri (4200 m – 4770 m – 4200 m)
Day 8: Osoruri – Hualcayan – Caraz – Huaraz (4550 m. – 4860 m – 3700 m)

The long itinerary of the T15 Vaquería Cedros Trek, incl. the famous face of Alpamayo Peak, 8 days – 7 nights:

Day 1: Huaraz - Vaqueria - Cachinapampa (3700 m. - 3700 m.)

Early in the morning pick up from your hotel (Picks up from 6:00 to 7:00 a.m.) and transfer to Vaquería located 4 hours northeast from Huaraz city in Conchucos area, to the other side of L from its langanuco Valley and Portachuelo Pass. In Vaquería the donkey drivers are waiting for us to carry the load on the donkeys and start the amazing traverse to Cachinapampa Valley (2 – 3 hours walking), where we set on our first campsite.The first day we will appreciate the impressive Chacraraju  Peak (6 112 m.) from its east face and the colorful Huaripampa Valley. Dinner and overnight at campsite accommodations.

Day 2: Cachinapampa - Tuctubamba (3700m. – 3900 m.)

After breakfast we iniciate the ascent to our next campsite at Tuctubamba Valley (3 to 5 hours walking). The path goes across beautiful quenoal forest with the spectacular view of the Taulliraju Peak (5830 m.). Arrival in the campsite approximately at midday. If you have more energy it possible to climb (about 2 hours more) to Punta Union Pass 4760, from there you can appreciate  the amazing Santa Cruz Valley surrounded by peaks of 6,000 meters, turquoise lagoons, the ideal place to take pictures. Then you come by the same path to Tuctubamba Campsite. Overnight and dinner at the campsite.

Day 3: Tuctubamba - Huecruncocha (4150 m. - 4650 m. - 3800 m.)

This day you climb up to Alto del Pucaraju pass (4640 masl) through a path of narrow rough tracks. After 2 hours climbing up we arrive to the pass, where there is one of the greatest views of the main peaks in White Range: Taulliraju, Artesonraju, Piramide Garcilaso, Alpamayo, Quitaraju. Then we descent to another valley with beautiful landscapes of forest and small lakes where it is possible to appreciate Andean geese. After 3 to 4 hours descending we arrive to the next campsite in the beautiful Huecruncocha Lake. Dinner and overnight at campsite.

Day 4: Lake Huecrucocha - Jancapampa (3800 m. - 4360 - 3600 m.)

After breakfast we descent for 40 minutes to Tuctubamba Valley. After we take the path to ascend to the Tupatupa Pass (4360 masl). From Tupa Tupa Pass we descend through a valley where you can appreciate the Pucajircas from the east face. The way to Jancapampa Valley last from 6 to 7 hours where you will be able to appreciate shepherds and their way of living.
Dinner and overnight at campsite located below impressive waterfalls formed from the Pucajirca Glaciar.

Day 5: Jancapampa - Huillcapampa (3600 m. - 4610 m. - 4000 m.)

After breakfast we start ascending through a path full of green forest and small hamlets of shepherds. This path takes us to the amazing Sactaycocha Lake surrounded of quenoal and quisuar tree in the Yanajanca Valley. In this valley we find the biggest quisuar forest of the National Park Huascarán. Then we continue ascending to Yanacon pass (4610 masl.). In total it will take us 6 to 7 hours to ascend and descend the pass that take us to Huillcapampa campsite. In this valley shepherds raise llamas and alpacas. The family who lives there, will surprised us with their way of living. Dinner and overnight at campsite.

Day 6: Huilcampampa - Lake Jankarurish (4000 m - 4460 - 4830 m- 4200 m.)

After breakfast we start an easy ascent to the Mesapata Pass at 4460 masl. Then we walk through a fascinating flat that takes us to the trail that climbs up to the Gara Gara Pass (4830 masl). This pass is usually very windy but has an impressive view of the valley and the mountains. Then we start to descend to the campsite close to Jankarurish Lake. We get there after 5 to 6 hours walking. This is the campsite from where we can appreciate the famous face of Alpamayo peak (5947 m.), which picture won a prize for the most beautiful mountain of the world, because of its perfect pyramidal shape. Overnight and dinner at campsite.

Day 7: Laguna Jankarurish - Osoruri (4200 m - 4770 m - 4200 m)

After breakfast we start ascending towards Ruina Pampa, a place where you can find pre-Inca ruins. Then we start ascending to Vientunan Pass (4770 masl) and then we descend to Osoruri, a small campsite in the middle of a small valley. The trail last approximately 4 to 6 hours.
Dinner and overnight at campsite.

Day 8: Osoruri - Hualcayan - Caraz - Huaraz (4550 m. - 4860 m - 3700 m)


Alter breakfast, start of the ascent to Osoruri Pass for 2 hours (4860 masl), where you have a magnificent view of the Cullicocha and Rajucocha Lakes and the impressive Santa Cruz Peak (6242 m.). Then we can spend sometime in Cullicocha Lake before proceeding to descend to Hualcayan Village from (3 to 4 hours). In Hualcayan our transportation will be waiting for us to take us to Caraz City. On the way, it is possible to stop in the hot springs of Huancarhuaz (at the moment there are no services there like toilettes or dressing room, just the natural hotsprings). From Hualcayan takes us 3 hours to get to Huaraz City, passing first through Caraz City where you can appreciate its plaza. After arriving n Huaraz you will be transfer to your hotel.
